“I accept responsibility for my role in this happening and have learned some valuable lessons.” writes the winner of the golden medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay.

Together with his teammates, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen, he made up a robbery by some armed cops after an incident at a Shell gas station in Rio. Globo TV, a Brazilian television station emitted some images on Thursday made by the security cameras.

Thanks to the investigation the truth was uncovered. The swimmers stopped at a gas station near Casa França. They vandalized the stations bathroom while intoxicated, and because of this, they were involved in a confrontation with the security guards.

On the images of the security cameras the swimmers are sitting on the floor with their arms up. This happened after having kicked in the bathroom door. They were being gunpoint by the security men.
