Instagram as travelguide

Social media Instagram can not only be used anymore just to post your selfies and follow your friends and celebrities. According to Jenna Wortham and The New York Times, Instagram is the perfect tool to obtain information for your next destination!

All over the internet we can find valuable info about cities, countries, hotels, restaurants and so on, but we all know we have to search a lot to find what we are looking for. Also, there exist plenty of books filled with travel destinations and all we need to know about them. With these tools, we do need to dig pretty much to find what we are looking for to plan the perfect vacation. Another good remedy is to talk to locals to find out what the real thing in their town is, which isn’t as easy as we say it, because of language issues.

Not only do we need to know where we can eat the best local food, or do we need to know where the best cocktails are made, but it’s also very important to know how to behave, what clothing to where, and how their culture works, cause if there is one thing we don’t want to do when on vacation is insult the locals… Anyhow, if we explore the “Locations” part of Instagram, we can find almost any city in the world. Then, the social media shows us the most recent pictures made in the place we’re looking for. We can find monuments, good food, nature destinations,… If we want to specify more, we can search in our location with a hashtag with what we’re looking for (for example #coffee). Explore this part of Instagram because it can be very helpful!
